The Barns |
This collection of Norfolk farm buildings, set in a total of 5 acres, date back approximately 200 years, having been built for the purpose of the day. Of course farming has changed dramatically in recent years and the farm, as was, fell in to disrepair. Having acquired the barns back in 1982, Simon set about renovating them in order to house a traditional cabinet making business producing hand crafted bespoke furniture. The business grew and ultimately moved to an industrial unit better suited to its needs.

Since then, Simon and Aase have embarked upon a real labour of love, renovating the former cowshed and hay loft and changing them from business premises to a charming country home. Craftmanship is of course of upmost importance and Simon incorporates his love of traditional methods and materials wherever possible. The grounds have also undergone a complete transformation. The old horse pond has been dredged and is home to ducks, moor hens, fish and even a heron. Gardens and flower borders have been sculpted and vegetables grow in abundance! A small woodland has been planted and is stocked with many indigenous Norfolk species, including apple and crab apple trees, as well as many Oak trees. The Grade 2 listed thatched covered cow shed offers a shady place to sit during summer months. The grounds are home to many birds and owls have taken up residence in nest boxes. Pheasants are seen strolling the gardens and we also keep a small flock of chickens. |
